The Great Escape

A collaborative project between Jack McLean and Maayke Schurer

A week before the last day of the installation of the Glasgow School of Art MFA exhibition at ARTNEWS Berlin, Jack and Maayke crossed the English Channel into unoccupied Europe. In a reversal of the plot of the 1963 movie ‘The Great Escape’ Jack and Maayke travelled covertly as possible overland by any means possible, in order to arrive in Berlin by the 13th Aug. Jack dressed similar to David McCallum’s character Lt. Cmdr Eric Ashley-Pitt in the and Maayke in similar 1940’s period dress. With them, they had little more than a change of shirt and a few personal survival effects seen laid above.
